How DNA Helped with My Irish Roots

March 28, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

  • « Owen Lovejoy and the Illinois Anti-slavery Movement
  • Finding Ida: A Search for the Early History of Ida Person/Persson/Pierson/Pearson Bryant of Bureau County, IL »

Michael John Neill will present “How DNA Helped with My Irish Roots.”  Michael John Neill’s DNA results helped him to pinpoint his Irish connection and to discover additional Irish relatives.  He will discuss how he sorted through his results, determined his likely Irish matches, and located his 1864 immigrant ancestor’s brothers who stayed in Ireland.  Along the way he will discuss some limitations of Irish research and basic sources during this time period.

Michael John Neill has given presentations for the Bureau County Genealogical Society several times.  He is a college math instructor, has researched his own ancestry for thirty years, and leads annual research trips to Salt Lake City and Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
