Owen Lovejoy and the Illinois Anti-slavery Movement

February 28, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

  • « Bureau County’s Place in Illinois History, Celebrating 200 Years of Statehood
  • How DNA Helped with My Irish Roots »

Our speaker will be Hope Browning. Her presentation is entitled “Owen Lovejoy and the Illinois Anti-slavery Movement.” Why did he choose Princeton as his residence? Lovejoy studied law, was a Congregational minister, a Republican congressman from Illinois and a friend of Abraham Lincoln.

Hope’s Searl and Hoskins ancestors arrived here in 1830 when this area was still a part of Putnam County. Hope has been a volunteer at BCGS for over 25 years, is an experienced researcher, and is also responsible for many award-winning window displays at BCGS.
