A Tale of Two Marys
August 27, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Pamela Haughawout will present a virtual program through Zoom entitled “A Tale of Two Marys.” The Illinois Valley is justifiably proud of the leaders it has produced, however, we seldom mention the importance of the female leaders of the area. The presentation will be in honor of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment (Women’s Suffrage) to the U. S. Constitution and will include information on two influential women from the Illinois Valley who made significant contributions in their fields and were coincidentally both named Mary. Mary Moreland was the first Congregational minister in the U.S. from Wyanet. Mary Hegeler Carus was a business and civic leader from LaSalle. Each was influential in her own community and provided pioneering leadership to the Illinois Valley.
Pamela Haughawout is from Peru, IL and is a volunteer at the Bureau County Genealogical Society as well as a docent at the Hegeler Carus Mansion. She is a retired financial consultant to the health care industry.
The meeting will be open to the public via Zoom. The program will consist of the lecture which will be approximately 30 minutes followed by a few minutes for questions and comments.
