A Tale of Two Mary’s *CANCELLED*
March 26 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
*Due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak, the Bureau County Genealogical Society has postponed the March 26 program that was to feature Pam Haughawout of Peru speaking on “A Tale of Two Marys.” Every effort will be made to put Pam back on the calendar within the next year.*
Pamela Haughawout will present a program entitled “A Tale of Two Mary’s.” The Illinois Valley is justifiably proud of the leaders it has produced: Leaders in the fields of politics (Abolitionist leaders and founders of the Republican Party), union organizing and business. However, we seldom mention the importance of the female leaders of the area. The presentation will be in honor of National Women’s History Month and include information on two influential women from the Illinois Valley who made significant contributions in their fields and were coincidentally both named Mary.
Mary Moreland was the first Congregational minister in the US from Wyanet. Mary Hegeler Carus was a business and civic leader from LaSalle. Each was influential in their communities as well as providing pioneering leadership to the Illinois Valley.
Pamela Haughawout became a volunteer at the Bureau County Genealogical Society after her retirement as a financial consultant to the health care industry.
